Year 1 – Perfect Destination Project – Putting it all together
Redrawing the EGG HOUSE mesh:

Initially I wanted the egg houses to look like decorated easter eggs (as shown above). However once I discovered what the UV unwrapping looked like, I solemnly understood it would be quite difficult to achieve.
I thought if I retopologized the mesh using quad draw that the UV unwrapping would be more clean (I should’ve just tried the UV cut and sew method we previously learned but somehow I thought that redrawing the mesh was the way to go about this). After hours of redrawing the mesh on, I came to the conclusion that just painting them one color would be fine enough for me. I did also try the 3D-Paint tool but when I would paint on one side of the egg, other small faces from other parts of the egg would be colored as well; I assume this fault is due to the messy model’s mesh.
Placing TREES, BENCHES, BIRDHOUSES in the environment:
I placed some models in the bird nest environment to get a feel of where and how everything should be placed. This was the first time I placed all my models in the same world so it was quite exciting to see them all there. I placed the trees in using a MASH network to randomize the placement of the trees on top of the bird-nest-floor mesh; However, after seeing how many more trees I would need, I decided to individually place the rest on the bird-nest-floor mesh.
Placing ROCKS, FEATHERS, GRASS, and BIRDS:

Placing the grass, trees, rocks, and feathers on the slanted land mesh was very time consuming and annoying to work with. It felt like the longest portion of this project I had to do compared to all other stages (modeling, animation, etc).
I used the 3D-Paininting option to make a path from each egg house on the bird nest floor mesh. I really enjoyed learning this paining tool and would use it in the future as well.
I added different colored windows to each of the egg-houses. This was not part of the initial plan but I find the egg-houses look much nicer with the windows.
Changed the egg-house colors to appear more vibrant. I love expressing the colors through materials and lights.
The final steps of my ‘putting it all together’ section of this project was getting all the light animations to cooperate with the camera and model animations. Adjusting simple things like placements and editing timing were the last tweaks of my project. I love how vibrant the environment appears in the maya rendering and in the Arnold rendering tabs. Overall, very happy with my project – mostly surprised at how dramatic lighting and colors can change scenes.
